About University of Delaware
The University of Delaware, simply known as UD or UDel, is recognized as being the largest university in Delaware. The original school, from which the university was expanded, was established in 1743, making UD one of the oldest universities in the States.
Newark houses the university's main campus, several other UD branches being located in Georgetown, Wilmington, Dover and Lewes.
The university has numerous renowned programs, including science, education, engineering, public administrations, history, chemical engineering, biochemistry and chemistry programs, offered through 7 different schools, such as College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Earth, Ocean and Environment, College of Engineering and College of Health Sciences.
The university's athletic teams are known as the Fightin' Blue, playing in the NCAA Division-I, having YoUDee as their official mascot which is a Blue Hen Chicken, covering more than 20 sports areas, football being the most popular sport at the university.
The engineering program at UD has been highly ranked by The Princeton Review, placing it on the 10th place among the best educational programs in the nation. The US News and World Report placed the chemical engineering program at UD on the 9th place among graduate programs and on the 10th place among undergraduate programs.
Two of UD's highlights are the facts that it is one of the only 4 educational institutions in North America that has a major in art conservation and that it was the first university in America to develop a study abroad program.
